There are two cotton gins in the area: Dunavant Ginning on the Cecil Plains Road employs 25 people year round and grows to around 50 in the ginning season. Queensland Cotton Gin on the Warrego Highway employs 20 people year round and the labour force expands to 60 in the ginning season April - July is the cotton picking season which sees these two gins becoming a hive of activity, operating around the clock 24hrs a day 7 days a week, depending on the actual crop for that year.
